Inner City CIDSThe services undertaken by the city improvement are supplementary to those provided by local council. They are based on an international place-making hierarchy that looks at how cities move from an unpleasant to an exceptional experience, therefore the type and level of services required of each area is based on its needs and where it fits on this laddered hierarchy. The Central Johannesburg Partnership (CJP) was established as section 21 company in January 1998. It sets up and manages city improvement districts in the Inner City and Braamfontein. There are currently five legislated city improvement districts in the inner city: Main Street is being managed as a voluntary improvement district within the South Western Improvement District. Newtown is managed as a Voluntary Improvement District. Other Safety and Cleaning initiatives currently managed by CJP are the Gauteng Provincial Legislature Precinct, the Transnet Safety Corridor which involves the placement of security guards from the Carlton Centre to the M2 Freeway, and the Small Street Mall Safety Initiative. In the Braamfontein area, CJP is managing the legislated Braamfontein Improvement District(BID). It also manages the Safety and Cleaning Initiatives at the following areas: the Civic Theatre, Civic Theatre and Park Precinct, the Wits University Precinct as well as the Constitutional Hill Precinct. For more information visit the website. The CJP are also investigating the potential of Ellis Park Improvement District, North Western Improvement District, Millpark and Bruma as possible improvement districts. |
