Councillors get training
The Specialised Project Management for Community Developers course is fully accredited by the Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority (ETDP SETA) and participants who complete the course received ETDP SETA Certificates of Competence with a credit value of 25 points.
“The project management course promotes self-discipline and time management. It motivates councillors to introduce projects within their communities and to encourage the mobilisation of resources,” says Jacqueline Matladi, a Johannesburg City Councillor.
This Wits Enterprise initiative is an important step in the development of professional local government officials and others who require the skills and abilities to deliver on government’s mandate. It is a positive catalyst for change, a solution to the growing demand for professionalism in approaches to community development and in understanding the need for the efficient use of resources.
“What is unique about the Specialised Project Management course is the strong practical component,” says Dr Johan Swanepoel, the Short Courses Manager at Wits Enterprise. “A defining feature of the Wits Enterprise course is that it requires participants to apply the theoretical knowledge they have gained through practical application. Many other project management courses are solely theory-based and lack this practical component.”
Wits Enterprise, the commercial company of Wits University, offers over 250 short courses using multidisciplinary teams of experts drawn from across the University’s five faculties.
